VES Flag Ceremonies for Scout Week

Date: 2/5/07 - 2/9/07
Time: 8:10AM - 2:24PM
Location: VES

Den Leaders,

As part of Scout Week, 4-10 Feb 07, I checked on the option of Scouts assisting the JROTC raising and lowering the American flag in front of the school next week.

Schedule -
Monday - Wolf den 8(Becky)
Tuesday - Bear den 4 (Chris)
Wednesday - Bear den 1 (Kimberly)
Thursday - Webelos I den 5 (AJ), Webelos II Scorpion patrol (Raffaella)
Friday - Webelos I den 6 (Beth), Tiger den 3 w/ adult partners (Teresa)

Procedures for dens and scouts to participate in VES flag ceremony:

Parents complete permission slip (see attached example) on the day prior to their scouts flag ceremony day. Scouts wear their scout uniform, if they have it, on their den’s designed day. Immediately upon arriving in their classroom, scout gives permission slip to teacher and reports to the VES gymnasium (the blue wrestling mat room by the VES office). Den leader will control scouts during flag ceremony. Upon completion of flag ceremony, scouts will report back to their classroom. Scouts should ask to be dismissed for afternoon flags at 2:30. Parents may choose to accompany their scout to the flag ceremony and can sign him in/out at the VES office for the ceremonies instead of using the permission slip, if they choose.

Den leader reports to VES office at 8:00 to check-in and then meets scouts in VES gymnasium. Den leader takes attendance of scouts present for notification to VES office and to pack advancements chair. JROTC cadets will escort den to flag pole and assist/instruct on flag ceremony procedures. Upon completion of ceremony, den leader returns to VES gymnasium and releases scouts back to their classrooms. Provide list of scouts that participated to VES office for accountability. For afternoon session, den leader may want to report to VES office by 2:25 and have VES office contact teachers of scouts that participated in the morning ceremony as a reminder.

NOTE FOR TIGER CUBS – As this is a BSA function, Tiger Cub Adult Partners (Parents) are required to accompany them for all flag ceremonies. Permission slips may not be necessary as adult partners (parents) will have to sign their scout in/out from the office.
