Outdoor Leader Skills (OLS) Training When: Oct. 17-19 Where: Brierfield State Park Cost: $25 per person Time: Friday after 5:00 p.m. and ends Sunday, 12:00 p.m
WHO: Scoutmasters, assistant scoutmasters, Troop Committee members, and Venture Crew Advisors.
WHY: Because every scout deserves a trained leader! ALL SM’s and ASM’s are required to complete Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training AND Outdoor Leader Skills to earn their “TRAINED” patch, to be eligible to earn their SM’s Key Award or Scouter’s Training Award, and to be eligible to take Wood Badge for the 21st Century.
WHERE & WHEN: At Brierfield Ironworks Historical State Park in Brierfield, Alabama. Check-in begins at 6 PM Friday evening, October 17th. The course will conclude Sunday, October 19th at about 1 PM.
COST: $25 per person. UNIFORM: Wear your official BSA Field Uniform (Class A); also bring your Activity uniform (Troop T-shirt or BSA T-shirt). MATERIALS NEEDED: Tent, sleeping bag, ground pad or inflatable mattress, and personal items listed on page 217 of the Boy Scout Handbook, 10th edition under “Personal Gear”. You are also required to bring a completed Class 2 medical form (for those ages 40 and under) or Class 3 medical form (for those over age 40). Also bring a pen, notebook with paper, a smile and a desire to have fun & learn! PATROLS: After all the participants have registered by October 6th, you will be assigned to patrols so to ensure sufficient patrol equipment such as cooking gear, Dutch ovens, tarps, etc. are available as provided by the assigned patrol members. Patrols are expected to set up their campsites, prepare a patrol name, flag, yell, song, and skit, and take down their campsite under Leave No Trace guidelines. PATROL GEAR: If you possess cooking kits and/or Dutch ovens, stoves, and other camping equipment, please coordinate with your patrol members to ensure sufficient cooking equipment exists to support the need of the Patrol. Don’t forget charcoal, propane fuel, lighters, and other supplies if you plan to use Dutch ovens or stoves. These will NOT be provided by the staff.
Additional Information: • DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS MONDAY, OCTOBER 6TH, 2008!!!!! This will allow time for our staff to prepare enough supplies and teaching handouts and give you as a participant enough time to coordinate with your patrol members prior to the course. Sorry, NO walk-up registrations will be accepted. Enrollment is limited to the first 36 registered participants! • When you have mailed your application, PLEASE contact Larry Crawley via email at lcrawley@mgandassociates.com to confirm your registration. Be sure to mail a COPY of this application, keep the original for your reference! • Please eat dinner BEFORE arriving or bring a sack dinner. Dinner will NOT be provided Friday evening. A Cracker Barrel will be provided at the end of Friday and Saturday evenings sessions. • Participants must purchase and cook the following meals by patrols: Saturday breakfast & supper, and Sunday breakfast. Staff will provide Saturday lunch and all Cracker Barrels. • Participants are required to provide all of their personal gear, tents, sleeping bags, pads, personal eating and drinking gear, and other personal items. These will NOT be provided by the staff. • Course schedule, details of the course, detailed “what to bring list”, patrol assignments, patrol member’s names, contact information, and email addresses will provided to all registered participants before the course.
