JOTT Jamboree On The Trail
Saturday, May 9, 2009 Scouts Walking Together World Wide
Pack 532 will be participating in the annual Jamboree on the Trail on Saturday, May 9th. This is one of only 3 international Scouting events offered and a great opportunity to get out on a trail locally while Scouts around the world are hiking in their areas. For us, we have selected a great hiking location in the middle of Hoover.
Moss Rock Preserve is 250 acres of microcosms of natural habitats that lie in a highland valley between Shades Mountain and lower Pine Mountain. A branch of Hurricane Creek runs through the property.
The actual hike will start at Moss Rock Preserve from the Sulphur Springs Rd. parking lot at 9:00 AM so you can meet us at the trailhead for a 2-2 ½ hour time in the woods. Actual hiking time for this less than 4 mile trail is 1 ½ - 2 hours depending on how many breaks we take.
If you are meeting us at HUMC, we will be departing at 8:30 Saturday morning.
What to bring: - good hiking shoes - water - a snack - a camera - sense of adventure - great attitude
Following are the directions to where we will be starting the hike: DIRECTIONS FROM I-459 VIA HWY 150 EXIT: Take exit #10 (Hwy 150). Turn east towards downtown Hoover. Turn left on Stadium Trace Pkwy. Stay straight on Stadium Trace Pkwy and it will eventually become Sulphur Springs Rd. You will be driving through a subdivision so don't let that throw you off. From Sulphur Springs Rd, drive 0.1 mile past Preserve Pkwy. Turn right into small, gravel parking lot inside a wooden fence.
This is also a National Summertime Pack Award qualifying activity.
This is another great Pack 532 event. Don't miss it!
