Toys For Tots 2nd Weekend, 12.13-14.08, 10am-4pm, Montclair Village Lucky's

Date: 12/13/08 - 12/14/08
Time: 10:00AM - 4:00PM
Location: Montclair Village Lucky's

Where: Montclair Village Lucky's

When: 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, December 13, 2008 and Sunday, December 14, 2008. Time slots run in two hour shifts from 10 am to 4 pm for the scheduled days.

Each of the three two hour shifts per day needs at least two cub scouts and two adults. If there are too many boys staffing the barrel, it's distracting to the service. Dens leaders and adult partners should contact Mike Groff to arrange for scheduling.

What: Toys for Tots is an annual service event where cub scouts man (or boy!) the station in front of Lucky's in Montclair village. The activity is done in coordination with the Marines Toys for Tots Drive, and benefits the Marines Toys for Tots Foundation. We work closely with the Marines for the event, and they often provide an honor guard and inspection detail for the Blue and Gold dinner!

From the Toys for Tots Foundation website:

Local toy collection campaigns begin in October and last until December 22. Toy distribution normally takes place on December 23 and 24. Members of the community drop new, unwrapped toys in collection boxes positioned in local businesses. Coordinators pick up these toys and store them in central warehouses where the toys are sorted by age and gender. At Christmas, coordinators, with the assistance of local social welfare agencies, church groups and other local community agencies, distribute the toys to the needy children of the community. Over the years, Marines have established close working relationships with social welfare agencies, churches and other local community agencies which are well qualified to identify the needy children in the community and play important roles in the distribution of the toys.

This is a great opportunity to participate in a national community service program, and to bring joy and light into the lives of needy children in our community.

WHAT WE NEED:

1) SIGN UP! Ideally we would like to have a den take a time slot or a day, and then have the den schedule how to staff the location. Slots are still available, see the link below for signup, or contact Mike Groff.

2) UNIFORMED LEADERS TO STAFF EACH DAY.

Mike Groff is the event coordinator for this event. You can contact him using the contacts below if you need more information or want to assist him.
