Pack 824 Cubs have a "Halibut" time at Discover Marina Del Rey 2005!
Members of Pack 824 got a treat Sunday at Discover Marina Del Rey 2005. Just before the scheduled air/sea rescue demonstration, our cubs got to go down on the docks and meet the crew of a fireboat of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Then we all were granted permission to board the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter "Halibut," an 87-foot vessel stationed right here in Marina Del Rey. We toured the front deck, damage control, the bridge and the mess. The boys were very curious about the deck guns (they weren't allowed to see those) and they were very excited about trying the different buttons on the bridge, until they found out they could borrow the Coast Guard's six pairs of binoculars! They also got to see the ocean rescue gear and the Halibut's rescue boat up-close before the demonstration, which the pack viewed from the docks. Afterwards, everyone visited the Marina Del Rey Anglers, which is restocking the local Seabass population. The boys helped the Anglers count the seabass before they were released later that day. Finally, everyone returned to the Pack 824 tent for hot dogs and chips before enjoying the rest of the attractions of Discover Marina Del Rey.
