Scouting has a language all its own. This is just a few definitions that should help new parents and scouts with the basic terms. If you hear anything that you don't understand, just ask a leader or a parent who has been around awhile. Cub Scouts: The scouting organization for boys in 1st through 5th grades. Led by adult volunteers. Boy Scouts: The scouting organization for boys in 6th through 12th grades. Led by the boys. Tiger Cub: A 1st grade Cub Scout. They can be recognized by their bright orange neckerchiefs. Wolf Cub: A 2nd grade Cub Scout. Bear Cub: A 3rd grade Cub Scout. Webelos 1: A 4th grade Cub Scout. Webelos 2: A 5th grade Cub Scout. Webelos - Webelos is meant to provide a transition period from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. Webelos continue to do all Pack activities, but also get involved with some Boy Scout Troop activities. Rank: The primary award that the boys work on each year (Tiger Cubs work on their Tiger Badge and Bobcat Badge, Wolf Cubs work on their Wolf Badge, Bear Cubs work on their Bear badge, Webelos 1 Cubs work on their Webelos Badge, Webelos 2 Cubs work on the Arrow of Light. (The highest award in Cub Scouting). We try to have each boy earn his rank for the year by February so he can receive it at the Blue & Gold banquet. Den: A small group of 5-10 cub scouts who are all the same age. Den's typically meet weekly, and also go on field trips. Pack: A group of Den's that consist of all age groups. Pack 1777 meets monthly, goes camping together, and has a variety of other Pack events. Council: We are part of the Del-Mar-Va Council, which consists of the entire state of De. The council provides camps and a professional staff to assist Pack and Den volunteers. District: We are part of the Freedom Trail district which consists of the towns in northern De. The district has several activities including the Pinewood Derby and Blue and Gold. Pack Meetings: Pack meetings consist of all the boys. Parents and siblings are encouraged to come along. We hand out awards earned that month, play games, and have a great time. Pack Meetings are on Thursday nights towards the end of the month and start at 7:00 PM SHARP. Our goal is to be done no later than 8:00 PM since it s a school night. Our pack meets at the Bible Fellowship Church on Old Baltimore Pike. Jamboree: A large gathering of scouts. There are State, National and World-Wide Jamborees. Scouting for Food: An event we take part in every year to collect food for local food banks. We distribute bags to every home in our district with the help from other cub scout, boy scout and girl scout troops. A week later we collect the bags full of food. Webelos Alley: A day event in February for the Webelos Scouts to practice their scouting skills and compete against other packs. Blue & Gold Banquet: A celebration of Cub Scouting birthday in February. We have a lunch/dinner banquet, entertainment, and present the boys their ranks for the year. The banquet takes the place of the February Pack Meeting. Pinewood Derby: A Cub Scout classic where each boy builds a model race car from wood and we race them down a 32' track. The car kits and rules will be distributed a month before the derby in March. Winners go on to the District pinewood derby.
