PACK 552: FAMILY CHECKLIST

Our very special End of Year Camping event will be held at Fiesta Key / Key
West KOA (http://koa.com/where/fl/09250/) starting Friday June 13, 2008! It
will be a weekend of watery fun, and a great time will be had by all!

CAMPING FEES

* The Camping Fee for the weekend will be $15 per adult attending
(under 5yrs old, no charge).

o NOTE: The Scouts camping fees will be paid for by the Pack!

* Food will be $15 per person (under 5 years old, no charge).

* Snorkeling $25 per person (under 5 years old, no charge).

IMPORTANT: Your fees should have already been paid to Virginia/Teresita by
now. If you still want to attend and haven't paid your fees, please talk to
Virginia to see if that will be possible.

Travel

Each family is responsible for their own travel to the event.

(driving directions at the bottom)

In short, take US1 South until you get to Mile Marker 70 Fiesta Key. It's
pretty hard to get lost in the Keys, because no matter where you go, you are
real close to US1. J The drive is about 2 hours, suggest you fill up the
tank before you go.

SCHEDULE:

You should leave on Friday afternoon/evening to set up camp by Friday night.
Please try to arrive in camp as early Friday evening as you can, as we need
help to set up camp kitchen, arrange our individual campsites, assign the
duty roster, etc.

We will snorkel in two groups on Saturday. The 8:30am group will be the
Tigers and Wolves returning 12:30pm. The Webelos and Bears will leave at
12:30pm and will return 4:30. While one group is out., the other will be in
camp and can work on achievements, games, etc. We will ride the catamaran
to the snorkeling site. Snorkeling gear will be provided.

There will be numerous opportunities for swimming fun this weekend. Parents
must be in the water with their Scout at all times to ensure their safety
(and to have fun with your kids!).

Sunday, we will have breakfast, and break camp together (no one should leave
before we have completed the Pack duties and officially break camp).

A more detailed schedule will be developed for the weekend at camp, and if
anyone has any input about any structured activities for your Den or the
whole Pack, I'm sure the leaders will excited to hear it! Here is a link to
all the activities the campsite has to offer:
<http://koa.com/where/fl/09250/activities/>
http://koa.com/where/fl/09250/activities/.

The following is a list of items you should bring to this camping. Check off
each item in as you pack...

SHELTER:

___You need to bring your own tent!

___Tent poles

___Tent stakes

___Mallet

___Waterproof ground cloth or plastic sheet (this need not be anything
expensive like a tarp, you can use the thick plastic sheets you find in the
painting section of Home Depot - it's cheap and will keep your tent from
getting dirty)

___Bedding: sleeping bag, pillow, ground pad, air mattress, etc.

___Our site will have electricity, bring an extension cord if you will need
power.

Collapsible CupsHEALTH/HYGEINE:

___Camp cup: 1 for each person (the cup can be plastic or metal, and should
be durable/washable). We don't want to use disposable cups, to protect our
environment - please do your part!). HINT: There are neat collapsible
plastic camp cups that take up very little space and can be carried in your
pocket. They look like this and should cost about $1.50/ea. I found some
in Target recently.

___Toothpaste, toothbrush, comb

___Washcloth, towel, soap in container (there are no showers, but you should
wash hands/face)

___Water bottle.

___Toilet paper.

___Sunscreen.

___Insect repellant.

___Plastic garbage bags (for dirty clothes, garbage, etc.) LEAVE NO TRACE!

CLOTHING:

NOTE: We want to take an end of year Pack photo with all the camp
participants on Saturday morning in this beautiful setting in the Keys!
Scouts/Leaders should all bring their Class A uniforms, and all parents
should wear a Class B t-shirt (if you don't have one, we will try to bring
some to next week's meeting for sale).

___Class A uniform for all Scouts/Leaders

___Class B uniform for everyone (if you have more than one t-shirt, please
bring it!)

___Swimsuit

___Towel(s)

___Poncho or raincoat (Scouts are waterproof!)

___Pajamas or sweatshirt, speatpants (for sleeping in case it's cold that
weekend)

___Water shoes

___Durable shoes that are good for a hike (suggest an extra pair of laces in
case one breaks, suggest taking an extra pair of shoes)

___Safety pins (just in case)

___Socks (bring extras!)

___Underwear (bring extras!)

SAFETY:

___Flashlight, bulb, batteries (test it before you leave home!)

___Individual First Aid Kit (one per tent)

___Whistle

___Fan to stay cool

OTHER GEAR:

___3" x 4" photograph of your Scout and his dad

___Camera

___Binoculars

___Lawn Chair

___Sunglasses

___Extra snacks for the kids

___Fishing gear (i.e. you may want to work on your Fishing Beltloop and
achievements
<http://www.boyscouttrail.com/cub-scouts/acadsports/fishing.asp>
http://www.boyscouttrail.com/cub-scouts/acadsports/fishing.asp)

___Water gear (i.e. swim mask, kickboard, etc., you will have a great chance
to work on your Swimming beltloop and achievements
<http://www.boyscouttrail.com/cub-scouts/acadsports/swimming.asp>
http://www.boyscouttrail.com/cub-scouts/acadsports/swimming.asp)

___Absolutely NO electronic games in camp. To avoid temptation, parents:
a.) leave them at home, b.) or if you are bringing them along for the drive,
leave them locked in the car when you come onto the campsite. Why do we ask
this? They are a distraction for your Scout from the camping activity and
Scouting experience, and they are a distraction to other Scouts as well.
Please support this effort, there are plenty of other times for electronic
games, our time together camping is very short. Let's make the most of it!

___Board games are acceptable (i.e. you may want to bring a board and work
on your Chess Beltloop
<http://www.boyscouttrail.com/cub-scouts/acadsports/chess.asp>
http://www.boyscouttrail.com/cub-scouts/acadsports/chess.asp)

NOTE: If you are interested in your Scout earning any beltloops, please work
with your Den leader to make sure all the boys are all working together to
earn these awards.
