Interested in joining Pack 209?
Date: 1/31/07
Hello!
We are Cub Scout Pack 209, which meets at the Odenton Masonic Lodge 209 AF&AM. Our meetings are on each Wednesday of the month. The last Wednesday is our Pack meeting.
We have been in existence since March 2006, but we are one of the most busiest packs in the Four Rivers District. We have family camping trips scheduled each month from June to September.
During 2006 our Pack went to various historic sites, including Fort McHenry, Valley Forge, Arlington National Cemetery, the USS Constellation, and the Flag House. We also visited the National Aquarium, the Maryland Science Center, Medievel Times, the National Zoo, and the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore.
In 2007 our Pack went to the National Air and Space Museum and the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington DC. We also went to the Patuxent Wildlife Center, Mount Vernon, B&O Railroad Museum and Sharp's Farm. We also camped at Antietam National Battlefield and Catoctin Mountain Park.
We participated in the Four Rivers District Cub Scout Fishing Derby in June 2007, as well as the Highland Games in November.
Our boys also made and raced their own Pinewood Derby car in March 2007 and raced their own Raingutter Regatta boat in August.
The cost to join our pack is only $10.80 for the year, which is prorated based on the month you join our Pack. Pack 209 pays for your subscription to Boys Life, a great Scouting magazine with a lot of information for our boys.
Funds for all our activities are raised by the boys, doing the Popcorn sales, which starts in July and runs through November each year. Funds from the popcorn sales helps pay for activities for the scout.
During 2008 the boys will be making their own Pinewood Derby car in January and racing it; they will also be racing their Raingutter Regatta boats in August.
Community service is a big part of Pack 209. We did Christmas Caroling at the Heart Homes in Odenton. We also participated in the Scouting for Food campaign in February, as well as sent pocket flags to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. We have also donated school supplies for the second year in a row to Sarah's House, a battered womens shelter. The boys had to raise the money by doing chores and then taking that money to purchase the needed supplies.
We are part of Boy Scouts of America and they have a special Web site to provide you with additional information on the world of Scouting. The site: www.joincubscouting.org offers games and film clips for the boys.
The Pack is composed of six Dens, for each grade level from first through fifth. Our leaders are well trained by the Baltimore Area Council (see announcement "Our Leaders are Well Trained."
If you have any questions, please contact our Committee Chair or any leader listed on our website. We will be more than happy to answer any question you have on our Scouting program.
