Patuxent Wildlife Preserve
Members of Pack 209 visited the Patuxent Wildlife Preserve in Laurel, Maryland. The boys visited the Environmental Education Classroom, where they made fish prints, stamped scarves with animal footprints and make critters out of foam. For the fish stamps the boys painted a rubber fish with different colors, then pressed the painted side of the fish onto a piece of paper. The result looked like a fossil. They also took rubber copies of animals hooves, stamped them on an inkpad and then placed the stamp onto a scarve. With this scarf the boys will be able to identify hoof prints of various animals while hiking.
They also went on about a one-mile hike through the woods. While on the hike they pointed out different trees (oaks, maples, pines, sassafras), vrious types of mushrooms, frogs and of course, bugs.
The boys were also able to complete the wildlife ranger program while there.
