Winter Camp 2006!
Winter Camp was a blast, wasn't it?! Some of us were worried about the lack of snow and the warm weather the week before. But there was plenty of snow for a wide range of wintertime fun!
After scrambled eggs and sausage for breakfast, we hiked north to the sledding hill. The sledding hill, with the warm daytime highs and freezing nights, was icy and super fast - Scouts (and Scouters) were flying!
Lunch was chili and sandwiches (thanks to Ted Gerold, Louis Hoffman, and Laura Lenz, Sam Rowekamp's mom, for three kettles of tasty chili!). After lunch, we headed over to the Camp office to get fitted out in cross-country skis and snowshoes before heading out on the nature trail. A few Scouts, not having gotten enough sledding, headed back to the hill. After skiing, snowshoeing, and sledding, those Scouts who we didn't run ragged adjourned to the parking lot for a spirited game of broomball.
For dinner, we had chicken tenders and lasagna and then headed out to the fire ring for chocoladas over a great campfire, for which we thank Mike Kadlec, assisted by Marshall Kadlec.
Breakfast was doughnuts - with blue and gold sprinkles - courtesy of the Scandia Bake Shop at 34th Avenue South and East 50th Street. After cleaning up, we checked out, and headed home. Thanks to Assistant Cubmaster Mike Bastos for organizing a great camp, to Den Chiefs Obi Henry and Keith Weller for their assistance, to all parents who pitched in and helped, and to our Scouts for their exemplary behavior!
Winter Camp 2007 will be at Rum River Friday to Sunday, January 12 to 14, 2007 and we've reserved all three cabins. Mark your calendars today!
