Raingutter and Rocket Regatta a blast!
The Raingutter and Rocket Regatta was a blast. We started with the Raingutter Regatta and learned a few lessons: the catamaran hull and cup sail designs rock - the fastest boats all used them and, in addition to being faster, they're also more stable. We also learned to not use water-soluble markers or paints and to use model glue instead of white glue. Winners were, in order of finish: Tycho Amyx, Radik Hoffman, Julian Smith (older brother of Mark Runquist), Daniel Melhado, and Austin Waller. The prize for best-looking boat went to Nathan Petersen and was judged by Amber of the Sibley Park staff.
The Rocket Regatta wasn't a race - just the opportunity to shoot rockets into the air! We had no misfires, only one rocket lost (there was an occasional stiff breeze and most rockets took some running around to retrieve), and no injuries.
Thanks to all the adults who helped with both set up, race operations, and rocket launching and to the Scouts for good sportsmanship and following instructions.
