Pack visits Cedar Summit Farm in New Prague
A small but spirited Pack 120 contingent visited Cedar Summit Farm in New Prague for the Pack's annual pre-Thanksgiving field trip. Cedar Summit is a small dairy farm whose cows are free-range and grass-fed. Unlike most dairy farms, Cedar Summit has an on-site creamery where the cow's milk is made into butter, cream, ice cream, and milk. Cedar Summit products are available at Kowalski's, Lunds, and area co-ops. You can learn more about Cedar Summit at its website, www.cedarsummit.com.
We peered into the creamery (it's very clean so it's for employees only), visited the milking parlor, saw the calves, chickens, and pigs, and went to the pasture and saw some of Cedar Summit's 150 cows. Our trip ended with ice cream cones - chocolate, chocolate chip, and vanilla. The winner of the ice cream contest was Joe Forest at three!
Cedar Summit is open to the public both for tours and to buy the products not available in stores like cheese and meat. Again, please visit the Cedar Summit website for hours, prices, products, and other information.
