We pulled three truckloads of buckthorn!
Well, three pickup truckloads. But fifteen Scouts, several siblings, and a bunch of parents pulled a lot of buckthorn and helped the long process of clearing this invasive, non-native plant from Fort Snelling State Park. Park Naturalist Kao Thao told us about buckthorn in the air conditioned comfort of the Park's visitors center before we headed out into the heat and humidity. After about two hours of buckthorn busting, we broke for lunch, had a short Pack meeting at which the Cubmaster's baton was handed over from Matt Neils to Daniel Amyx, and then adjourned to the fishing pier and the swimming beach. Thanks to everyone who made this a successful event!
From Park Naturalist Kao Thao:
I thank you for your help pulling buckthorn in the park. Pack 120 was great; everyone pitched in and did an excellent job. You pulled several truckloads of buckthorns in various sizes, with many of the plants already having berries. That means that you eliminated hundreds of future buckthorns. Pack 120 is a great crew. Thanks for taking the time and care to make this a great park. I'm looking forward to future projects and programs with Pack 120.
