Fun in the snow - Winter Camp 2008!

We always say this but, yes, Winter Camp 2008 WAS the best Winter Camp yet!

Nearly seventy of us nearly filled up all three cabins at Rum River Scout Camp. Friday night, we settled in, played outside, snacked, made our hot air balloons, and got a good night's rest for a fun-filled Saturday.

On Saturday, the snow conditions for sledding were iffy. After a breakfast of scrambled eggs and sausage, we held the first annual Pack 120 Snolympics - a series of Scout and ice and snow related games. After a lunch of a variety of chilies and soups with corn and French bread, it was time for the very fast sledding hill - the less long and less steep south side for safety. Some Scouts enjoyed snowshoing as well. Before dinner, we held the Snolympics closing ceremonies complete with icy awards! Dinner was lasagna, salad, and garlic toast (with leftover corn and French bread) followed by our luminaria-lit night hike to the campfire for awards, jokes, songs, stories, and a cinnamon apple streusel dump cake cooked in the fire.

Sunday morning was our most efficient yet - all three cabins were cleared out and cleaned, with only one lost glove, and everyone was out by 10:00 a.m. - in plenty of time for the Super Bowl pre-pre-game show!

Thanks to everyone who helped - Cubmaster Daniel Amyx and Assistant Cubmaster Ted Gerold who planned and oversaw the weekend's activities, Louis Hoffman and Stephanie Petersen, who shopped, Stephanie Petersen and numerous assistants, who helped keep the kitchen running smoothly, and all of our adult leaders and parents who pitched in to make this not only a fun camp but a well-run camp that impressed camp staff.
