What a great Spring Camp!

Two cloudbursts (and some not-so-far-off thunder and lightning ) couldn't dampen the spirits of this year's Spring Camp - or of the 69 Spring Campers - 31 Cub Scouts, 12 Boy Scouts from Troop 132, three sisters, and 23 adults. Our tents got wet shortly after some of them were pitched (and some people were making camp in the middle of the downpour) and our Saturday night campfire ended up inside the shelter.

But Saturday was beautiful and Scouts rotated through the archery and BB gun ranges (thanks to Daniel Amyx, Troop 132 Assistant Scoutmaster Bill Doyle, and Pamela Reimler for running the ranges), canoe cove (thanks to John Britton for canoe instruction and to Daniel Amyx and Louis Hoffman for their assistance), the map and compass/orienteering class run by Michael Hartford and Ann Waller in Kipling Shelter, Bill Doyle's knot class under the Troop's dining fly, the Outdoorsman/Scoutcraft class on camp stove use, fire building, and safety run by John Britton and Paul Brookner, and disc golf.

A special thanks to those who helped with the food: Ann Waller, who ran the commissary, Eric Grube, Louis Hoffman, Ann Waller, and Cheryl Williams, who shopped, Ted Gerold, who schlepped the giant cooler back and forth, and everyone who stepped in to help in the kitchen.

Special recognition goes to Bill Doyle for his Dutch oven-cooked apple brown Betty, to Torin Hilgenfeld and Grandpa Nick Diederich for their pineapple upside down cake, and to Tiger Den 6, winners of the Giant Spoon Award, for knowing their food pyramid!

And special thanks goes to the Boy Scouts of Troop 132, Mount Carmel Lutheran Church, Northeast Minneapolis, for joining us and helping our Cub Scouts learn and have fun.
