Pack 107 at the 2007 Akela-Cub

Donna provided the following report on the Pack's first campout of the year...

The Cubs had an absolute blast at the Akela campout this weekend. We had 12 Tigers, 4 Webelos Is, and 6 Webelos IIs, plus a slew of parents and family to make 48 total.

It was actually a good campout with “Show and Do” as the theme. The Forestry Service was there with a fire fighting truck (let the boys run the hose) and bull dozer (crawl all over it). The Army was there showing off helmets and humvee’s. The US Fish & Wildlife Service was there giving bird lectures and teaching the boys how they caught birds with nets to do bird counts. There was an air boat (the adults had more fun with this one). The Natural History Museum was there with snakes, snapping turtles, an alligator the boys got to touch, and all kinds of furs, etc. BassPro Shop was demonstrating dutch oven cooking. The DEQ talked about recycling. The most cool activity was a guy from the only star observatory in MS (by French camp). He showed all kinds of things at the Cubs' level. Here is a beach ball of the sun, how big do you think the earth is (size of a bb)? Here is the earth (basketball) and the moon (tennis ball), how far apart do you think they are. Then, at the campfire he had this awesome laser and pointed out constellations and told a story about how the great spirit and the animals put all the starts in the skies. Very cool.

The boys were slap worn out – so were the parents.

That is the first time I ever cooked 8 lbs. of macaroni noodles to make mac and cheese. That is a lot of mac and cheese!
