Leader's Den
Leader Training For All Pack 225 Leaders

Date: 1/01/20

To All Pack225 Leaders and Committee Members,

I have tried to include all necessary leader training information in one email. If anyone has any questions, please contact me.

Listed below are the minimum requirements to be a leader (as required by the Cape Fear Council). Leaders requiring training include the following: den leaders, cubmaster and assistant cubmaster. Committee members and assistant den leaders are encouraged to take the same training, but it is not required.

1) Leadership training begins online. Go to the BSA Online Learning Center http://olc.scouting.org/index.html and take the Fast Start and Youth Protection programs. You must create an account to take the programs. Print out 2 copies of the certificate awarded online, one for your records and one for the pack records (submitted to me).

2) A) Leadership Essentials and B) Leader-Specific Training is offered during a two night program (dates/locations below). Leader-specific training includes breakouts for the following: Cubmaster/Assistant Cubmaster, Tiger den leader, Wolf den leader, Bear den leader and Webelos den leader. If you have taken leadership essentials in the past, but are moving to a different den or pack position, then you would only need to complete the second night of the program (leader-specific training).

Our district is the Northeast; however, if you are unable to attend the Northeast training, a second option is to attend the Masonboro training. Please schedule to complete your training during these time periods. You can mix-n-match in only one way – If you attend New Leader Essentials @ Northeast on Sept.30 and cannot attend Oct.2 date, you may switch to Masonboro to complete your Leader Specific Training on Oct.9th.

All other training such as: BALOO training, basic outdoor leader training, Pow-Wow and Woodbadge are optional programs that are not required but encouraged. These other programs also require that the above listed trainings (items 1&2) must be completed as a prerequisite. Any den or pack activity that includes an overnight campout (and a permit) requires that at least one person present be BALOO or outdoor leader essential trained. This training is not necessary for the fall and spring, council sponsored camp at Camp McNeill.

Please do not hesitate to call with questions!

Respectfully,
Chip Jackson
