Webelos Campout was a Tremendous Success
The Pack 3269 first annual Webelos Campout at Atwood Lake Park was a tremendous success. Once again the Cubmasters of the Past were looking down on us and prevented the rain from hampering the fun as just a few spotty drizzles fell. We set up camp at the primitive sites at Atwood Lake, about 1.5 hours south of Aurora. All of the Webelos Patrols were represented with fourteen scouts present along with their leaders and parents. Setup was Friday afternoon with the rest of the evening devoted to fun. The scouts were required to help make camp, cook meals and police the camp area. During the evening, the scouts fished, played capture the flag and played some sort of dirt slide game they devised in a place they named “Dead Fish Cove”. After dinner, there was flashlight tag and Ghost in the Graveyard. Late evening brought some whittling and guitar playing by the fire and then lights out. Saturday, after a cleanup of the mess a raccoon left in the garbage, the scouts cooked breakfast over the fire. This included French toast, eggs, sausage, bacon and Mr. Perry’s special instant coffee. Late morning brought a hike through the woods to an observation tower and then an hour hike back to the campsite. After lunch, the scouts went to the swimming beach to earn their Aquanaut Badge. All Webelos in attendance have fulfilled the requirement for a Webelos only activity toward the Arrow of Light Award. Hopefully, the Webelos I scouts will continue this new tradition for the Pack next year and future Webelos will enjoy it as much as we did. Many scouts thought it was the best campout ever! Thanks to Mr. Poremba, Mr. Perry, Mr. Ellis, Mr. Sekela, Mr. Mehl and Mr. Gambatesa for organizing this activity.
Respectfully Submitted by, Bill Sekela Cobra Patrol Leader and Pack 3269 Webmaster
