Orienteering at The Willows - April 18th
Date: 4/18/09
Time: 9:45AM
Location: The WIllows
Pack Outing April 18th Orienteering at the Willows. This is a fun event and recognizing that this may be a busy little league day, we are planning on meeting at two different times in the day so that if you have a conflict on one of the start times you can make the other start time. The time commitment for this event is usually about 60-90 minutes, so it is something you probably can slip in your busy day, and since it is the Willows, it’s very convenient. Plus the weather is supposed to be awesome. This is a beginner’s course.
If you can make it, plan to arrive either betw 945-10am or betw 1245-1pm so those in our Pack can form teams and learn and work together; don’t wait for a leader to show up before you sign in, as I’m not sure whether there will be an organizer on site (unfortunately, I know I can’t make it). There is a nominal cost to this event (I think it’s $3-5 per team). The last group starts at 1pm. You register, divide into groups, have an orientation then you are timed on how long it takes for you to do the course, find the markers by using the map they provide and a compass (bring one if you have one). There’s a link below to the sponsor of the event. Kids will learn about reading maps and using compasses (there is a belt loop achievements on maps and compasses too if you haven’t earned them yet(see link below)).
