What to Bring for a Campout - Warm Weather Edition

Date: 9/26/05

What to Bring for a Campout - Warm Weather Edition

Tent (The Pack has a couple of extra if you need one)
Ground tarp for tent (some tents have these built into the tent)
Collapsible Chairs for each person camping
Sleeping bags
Foam Pad, Cot or Air Mattress
Pillow

**PLEASE NO ELECTRONIC GAMES OF ANY KIND**

Food and drink for your family and snacks. The Pack will provide dinner
on Saturday evening.
Large water container (1 to 2 gallons is good) - There will be a water
source at Boxwell for us to use, so toting in many gallons of water is
not necessary. You can also opt for smaller water in bottles.
Propane stove and propane
Cooking pans and utensils
Perishable food in ice chest (frozen ice in a half gallon milk jug works
well for cooling)
Dishes
Cleaning materials for dishes
Trash Bag

One change of clothes (optional on a 1 night campout)
Scout uniform (full class A if possible)
Cub Pack 14 T-Shirt
Scout book
Toiletries (bathrooms and showers are available)
Poncho or Rain Gear (Be Prepared)
Flashlight with extra batteries

OPTIONAL BUT FUN
----------------
Pocket Knife (if you have your whittling chip) Please DON'T bring a
pocket knife for your boy if they have not earned their whittling chip.
Extra light sticks (the pack will provide a light stick for every boy
and most likely every sibling as well on Saturday night)
Small folding table - handy for food prep. There are no picnic tables
at Boxwell.
Bundle of wood for campfire
Fishing Gear (kids don't need a license, but adults do)

If you don't have all the equipment you need, Academy, Target and
Wal-Mart are all good sources. You can also borrow from friends. Don't
let the lack of equipment deter you. Call me (500-5304). I may be able
to help.

FOOD - WHAT DO I DO?
--------------------
If you haven't camped before, here is an easy sample menu:

EAT DINNER BEFORE YOU GET THERE ON FRIDAY. Bring some snacks (jerky,
trail mix, fruit) for Friday night.

Saturday & Sunday Breakfast-instant grits or oatmeal and fruit, milk

Saturday Lunch-sandwiches, chips, drink

Saturday Supper- The pack is providing Hobo dinners and drinks for
everyone. It's a delicious concoction of a hamburger patty, potatoes,
onions, carrots, etc (you pick what to put in yours) - seasoned and
cooked in a foil pouch over the fire. It's a very easy tasty dinner.
There will be plenty of folks to help you cook these. You will only
need a fork.

You will need enough food for breakfast, lunch and snacks on Saturday
and breakfast on Sunday (and you could pick up McDonalds on the way out
if you really want). Be forewarned: Children burn a lot of energy when
camping and will be rather hungry!
