Friends of Scouting
Date: 9/1/09
To: The parents of Pack 330 Scouts RE: Friends of Scouting
Friends of Scouting? We all are!
Friends of Scouting is a fund designed to keep the movement of Scouting alive and achieving goals in each unit. Almost every human endeavor has a financial side, and so does the scouting movement.
The money earned from donations to Friends of Scouting goes toward: · Camp Sunrise - our base camp. · The “Campership” Fund, which helps boys who can’t swing the full summer camp fee. · They organize special events like statewide parades, jamborees, camporees, Haunted Harvest Fest, and other fun events during the year. · The professional staff of Scouters that support, train and guide the volunteers in Pack 330 so we can provide a valuable and consistent program for our boys. · The service center in Waterbury that plans and operates activities and is the HQ for staff, trainers, all the forms we use during the season, the Trading Post, which is the home base for all the pins, patches, derby cars, rain gutter boats, and resources we need all year long. HQ keeps track of all of your son’s advancement records and his leaders training records. · The Friends of Scouting donations pays to purchase new BB guns and archery equipment for camps.
We could go on with the list, but the point is that it takes a lot of people to pull scouting together and a lot of money to keep it operational, safe, educational, and tons of fun.
The Friends of Scouting representative was at our Pinewood Derby on February 9th to ask us for donations and pledges. Please keep in mind that you do not have to pledge $100 each.
Our goal as a unit is to get 100% participation. 100% participation means everyone shows their support by donating something; $5 or $7 or $10 or $20 per scout. We would like to see each boy and leader try to donate just $5 toward the fund but you are certainly welcome to donate more.
One of our goals this year as a pack is to earn the Gold Star Unit Award. One of the requirements of this award is to get 100% or more of our 2008 Family Friends of Scouting campaign goal. Goals are based upon the cost of sustaining one Scout in the Green Mountain Council for one year. Units are asked to raise 25% of that cost for each Scout in the unit (based on March 31, 2007 membership).
If we reach our goal of $1300, we receive the following benefits for the pack:
1) All rank patches FREE! This includes Tiger Cub, Bobcat, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, and Arrow of Light patches.
2) 10% of FOS dollars raised deposited to the Unit Account at the Service Center. We get to keep some of the money raised!
3) A 10% discount off all BSA merchandise (catalog orders or store stock) on one order between June 1 and June 30, 2008. All purchases and orders must be paid in full on the date of order. All Benefits will begin after FOS presentation is made and goal is met or exceeded and will continue until March 31, 2009.
We had our presentation at the Pinewood Derby. We raised $1005, so we are shy of our goal by only $295! Thank you to all who have donated already! If those who have not pledged to donate yet did so, we could meet this goal and reap the benefits! Let’s show them we appreciate what they do too.
Yours In Scouting,
Elaine
