Akela Bake Off
We were able to meet for our Akela Bake Off on Saturday February 2 at the Shaftsbury Fire House after having to postpone due to the ice storm the night before. We had a good showing with 17 Scouts attending on such short notice!
Our judges were Shaftsbury Town Administrator Aaron Chrostowsky, Shaftsbury Town Representative Alice Miller and Wolf Den Chief Trenton Gootee. While our judges taste tested all 17 desserts, we handed out earned belt loops, we had a Leave No Trace presentation by our Wolf den, we heard about Camp Sunrise Summer Camp (July 20-25) & the Battleship Cove trip (August 9), we weighed in Pinewood Derby cars, and we sang some songs learned at Camp Sunrise.
When the judges were finished with their job, they awarded prizes to the Scout in the following categories:
Pack’s Pride Award - Austin Buttle for his Wolf Cookies OWL’s Height Award - Drew Dunlap for his Wolf Goof Balls Brightest BEAR Award - Jonas Werger for his Meringue Webelos Cookies Creative Creation Award - Tristan Shays for his Tiger Dragon Cake Wolf-It-Down Award - Cameron Turner for his Wolf Dirt Cake Most-Like-Grandma’s Award - Austin Martinka for his Austin’s Rum Cake An Awesome Achievement Award - Riley MacDonald for his Motherload Pretzels Betty Crocker’s Envy - Joshua Harvey for his Josh’s Rum Cake Summer Camp Sensation Award - Bennie Hulett for his Webelos Muffins Most-Like-Martha Award - Nicholas Spurr for his Tiger Chocolate Cream Pie The TIGER-ific Award - Seth Criss for his Chocolate Covered Strawberries Cub Scout Surprise Award - Skylar O’Dell for his Bear Chip Cookies Chocolate Shop Award - Benjamin Doucette for his Lost Hiker Stew The Baker’s Secret Award - Matthew Hoag for his Bear Peanut Butter Fudge Un-BEAR-ably Good Award - David Criss for his Raspberry Pie Webelos’ WOW Award - Caden Watson for his Tiger Cinnamon Swirl Cake The Cub Scout’s Cool Award - Aaron Hulett for his Oreo Bear Ice Cream
Congratulations to ALL our Scouts for making such excellent desserts!
This year we took the extra goodies, packaged them up and donated them to the Harvest Christian Ministries Soup Kitchen in Bennington. These 5 bags contained extra cookies, cake slices, pies and more and will help to brighten the day of those less fortunate than us. GOOD JOB, Scouts!
