Hale Mountain Svc Project
The Webelos den gathered on Sunday for a den service/conservation project. The Scouts hiked to the lean-tos and helped clean up the area. Scouts came prepared to work, cut brush and pile it up to create small critter habitats. Before heading up to the lean-to camp site, Mr. Doucette talked about the Leave No Trace Frontcountry Guidelines. One of the goals of this trip was to clean up refuse left behind by other visitors to the campsite.
Hale Mountain Rod and Gun Club is our Charter Organization. This gave us a chance to return the favor and help maintain their facility. The lean-to area provides people with a place to camp out.
The Webelos (with a Bear, a Boy Scout and parents) worked on clearing one lean-to site. The brush was piled up to provide all the comforts of home to some of nature's oft overlooked creatures. We hope chipmunks, birds, spiders, even snakes can use the pile provided to make a home for themselves. Anything to keep them out of the lean-tos!!
There is a bit more work to do. Some brush, some sweeping, some raking. But the boys can be proud of the work they have accomplished so far.
This activity helped complete the requirements for the Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award and the Outdoorsman activity pin. Most of the Webelos completed other requirements listed in the links below at Summer Camp at Camp Sunrise or over the summer with family.
Outdoorsman requirements #2, #3, #7, #8, #9 were completed at Camp Sunrise. Outdoorsman requirements #5 and #6 will be completed during this outing.
Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award requirement #2 was fulfilled at the Battle Day Parade or at the Opening Campfire. Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award requirements #1, #3, #4, #9, #10 and #11 were completed at Camp Sunrise. #4 was also completed by those attending Battleship Cove. Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award requirements #5 and #6 will be completed during this outing. Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award also requires earning the Outdoorsman activity pin. Those who have not yet completed the Outdoorsman will have the opportunity to complete those requirements (see link below or your Webelos Handbook).
Scouts who did not attend Camp Sunrise can still apply summer family outings to these requirements, if you were a Webelos at the time.
