Herkimer Diamond Mine

Step back in time and be a prospector for a day? Mine for Herkimer Diamonds and keep what you find! What an adventure!
Twenty-four Cub Scouts from Pack 330 attended this event! With family members, a total of 58 people from our area tried their luck at finding Herkimer Diamonds!!
The 2 Webelos dens also fulfilled many of the requirements for their Geologist activity badges. To earn the badge, Webelos must fulfill 5 of the 9 requirements listed in their book. Both dens will discuss the topic in further depth at their next meeting, but they did hit on major points of the following requirements:
1. They talked about some of the geologic materials used in building your home. (Requirement #4)
2. They explained and discussed ways in which mountains are formed. (Requirement #6)
3. They described what a fossil is. Find two examples of fossils in your area. They sluiced for fossils and tried to identify those they found. (Requirement #7)
4. We all took a field trip to a geological site, the Herkimer Mine! Discuss what you learned at your next Webelos den meeting. (Requirement #8)
5. The Webelos worked on the requirements for earning the Cub Scout Academics belt loop for Geology. (Requirement #9)
