SAIL ON THE S/V SULLIVAN!
Date: 8/12/09 - 8/12/09
Time: 8:30AM - 11:30PM
Location: DISCOVERY WORLD, MILWAUKEE
Wow!
Ahoy! Want to be a pirate? How about a scientist? How about both at the same time!
Our pirate scientists get a chance to ride the high seas - or at least the Port o' Milwaukee - for two hours on a 3-masted schooner, the science ship S/V Sullivan out of Discovery World. For details, click the link below. We get to sample water quality, tie some knots, raise and lower sails, talk about shipwrecks. The boys will perform simple water experiments.
We have room for 45 - TOTAL. We have a waiting list right now of about 10-15 people. With 30 more - we can do a second sail!
As this is a special added event, it does cost $25/participant. The Pack - through Popcorn Sales - will pick up the rest. Scouts will get a patch.
If we have strong enough interest, we may try to add a second sail. We may also schedule a picnic to follow, or a visit to Discovery World for den-specific activities planned by your den leaders.
The first sail: 9:00-11:00am The second sail: noon-2:00pm (I'm optimistic...)
Advancement Opportunities, with planning: Everyone: Science Belt Loop (which helps with other awards) Weather Belt Loop (ditto) Bears: Tying It All Up Take Care of Your Planet Weather elective Webelos: Scientst Badge entering 4th and 5th grade Webelos leaders have the option of arranging a Discovery World class designed specifically to attain the Scientist Badge - see link below.
