History of Cub Scout Pack 30

Date: 3/16/07

Cub Scout Pack 30 was first formed in Wirt County in March 1952. The pack was sponsored by the Methodist, Baptist, and Presbyterian churches. E.C. Chambers served as the first Cubmaster holding that position for one year. George McCune held the position of Cubmaster for two years 1953-1954. Other Cubmasters for the pack were Otis Raines 1955, Woodrow Wilson 1956-57-58-59. From March 1960 the pack was not active. The Methodist Church then picked up the charter and held it from October 1960 until October 1961 with Cecil Taylor serving as Cubmaster. Our records are somewhat incomplete and we do not know how many Cub Scouts were active in the pack during these times. Beginning in 1961 the pack had several Cubmasters some of who we know were John Snyder, Tim Lynch and Roxie Holbert. Roxie devoted many years and gave unselfish of her time and is credited with keeping Pack 30 going on and off until her retirement in 1990. Keith Smith the current Cubmaster took over in 1989. The pack has grown from ten boys to well over seventy at different times since 1989. The Elizabeth United Methodist Church has been our charter partner for twenty-two years. The pack has achieved Quality Unit for eighteen consecutive years. Currently the weekly den meetings are held at the Elizabeth United Methodist Church, Two Ripple Baptist Church and Elizabeth Baptist Church, in addition the monthly pack meeting is held at the Elizabeth Baptist Church. As of January 2007, the Pack has thirty-nine active Cub Scouts and sixteen adult leaders. Anyone with additional history of the pack please contact Cubmaster Keith Smith at 304-275-3663.
